Farmville is a real time farm simulation. In the game players earn coins by growing and harvesting crops and trees and collecting produce from animals such as cows and chickens. Players also earn "money" by each time they level up. The money is then used to purchase and upgrade items that can't be purchased with coins.

Players also have the ability to buy decorations to personalize their farm the way they want it. Examples of things that can be purchased are hay bales, picnic tables, and fences.  Other things that can be purchased are tools and vehicles such as tractors, houses, barns and tool sheds. Essentially there are only two methods players can use to earn money. The first is by levelling up and the second is by purchasing it outright from Zynga. Friends who are also playing the game are known as neighbors and the more you have the better as some items are only availabe as gifts to a players neighbors.

Farmville is a real time game so sometimes the only option is to wait for money making items to become available. Players have to keep an eye on their crops as some can take a couple of days and some only a few hours.

Here are some hints and tips you can use to increase your experience and coins:

• Do chores for your neighbors by visiting their farm. This will give you experience and coins.
• the best way to earn coins is by planting seeds, harvesting crops and collecting from animals.
• Log in everday even if you don't have time to do anything as you are given coins just for logging in.
• Plan your crops carefully. For example, soy beans take a full day to grow but they do give you a good return on your investment. Tomatoes are also a good way to go as they will give you a 58 coin profit.
• Get a tractor, it will allow you to plow four times as fast.
• One great tip is to trap your farmer by surrounding him with haybales or fences.  He won't be able to move but will instead do everything from a distance which saves time.

If you plant a crop that takes two hours to grow it will also take two hours to rot once fully grown and losing all your profit plus your expenses if you don't get to them on time. Plan your crops around your schedule. If you plant soybeans at 7:00 AM for example and then toddle off to work your lovely fully grown soybeans will be ready for you to harvest at the same time the next morning.

An extreme Farmville fanatic may even take to creating charts with all their crop schedules in it. If you don't feel like creating a chart you can always download one from the many fansites that are cropping up around the internet.
